Earth Day

Earth Day

Welcome to Open Range, I’m KayDee Gilkey. Stay tuned because after the break I’ll check in with our field reporter, Greg Martin for the AgriBeef Minute.

I’m Greg Martin with today’s AgriBeef Minute. Earth Day is Monday and a lot of rural people live Earth Day - everyday according to Beef Matters blogger, Kim Brackett.

BRACKETT: You know Earth Day is kind of an exciting holiday for us but it’s also one that I feel like we celebrate year-round. We’re out there everyday - outdoors and enjoying Mother Nature so it’s something my family appreciates everyday and especially on Earth Day.

Brackett finds a way to continually talk to her kids about taking care of the land.

BRACKETT: Right now we are busy planting our garden so my younger kids and I talk a lot about the gardening and the planting of trees and how that ties into the earth and then with my older kids when we’re out riding on the range we talk a little bit about - we run a lot of water troughs on our ranch. So we run a lot of pipeline and we talk about how the water in that trough is great for our cattle but it’s also providing water for the wildlife out there.

What message does she have for city folks?

BRACKETT: I think my biggest message to them would be that we truly are caring for our environment. That we are stewards of the land and that everyday we make decisions on our ranch, business decisions that we believe are in the best interest of our cattle and of the environment and that’s every single day.

I’m Greg Martin and that’s today’s AgriBeef Minute.

Thanks Greg. Don’t forget Greg will be back each Wednesday with the AgriBeef Minute. Agri Beef Co - Real Families, Great People, Exceptional Beef. I’m KayDee Gilkey.
