PNW Applicator One of Four Finalists for Nation's Top Applicator

One of the top four finalists in the Operator of the Year contest conducted by AGCO Application Equipment is a Pacific Northwest applicator. Rocky Lang has been a professional applicator with CHS in Royal City Washington for 18 years. Lang says growing up he always wanted to be a farmer and his current profession is his way of helping farmers to feed the world.

Lang: “It’s not like a factory job. It is something different every day. Each field is different; you could actually could spray a field today and come back to it a week later and it is totally different. It is constantly changing and you’re out of doors constantly moving. I’m not a guy that likes to be indoors.”

Lang’s territory covers north to Odessa but also dips as far south as the Columbia River which means the crops he sprays are as varied as the geographic area.

Lang: “I spray anything from alfalfa which we are spraying right now. I do spuds, we do corn, sweet corn, wheat, barley, peas, beans. We grow a variety of crops here in the Columbia Basin.”

Lang encourages young people deciding on a careers to consider becoming an applicator.

Lang: “It is hard to find younger guys to try and get into this business. It is a good opportunity for people to make a good living at it.”
