04/22/05 New favorite - Gary Farrell

Welcome to Vine to wine, this is your host Linda Moran, and as most of you know my new favorite wine is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time because I just don't drink wine that I don't like. Recently I spent some time in California on what I call the more scenic parts of that state's wine country. After this break I will share with you one of my new favorite wineries. Although, it is well known in most wine circles, this was my first visit to the Tasting Room of Gary Farrell Winery. It is in the Russian River Wine area and it was tucked just above a winding road in some beautiful countryside. The tasting room was architectural stunning and welcoming, although one of the employees was a bit of a snob. But we managed to steer clear of him and a delightful woman by the name of Levon guided us through the tasting. My colleague and I were very impressed by every one of the wines that we tasted. And I might add that this did not happen at any other of our stops. But the wine that I could not leave without was a Pinot Noir from the 2002 vintage. It is from the 63 year old Allen Vineyard Hillside Block which is one of the most well respected properties growing Pinot Noir in California. This is a truly elegant and age worthy wine. It is an insight that the trip gave to me. I will always be looking for chances to taste and collect wines from Gary Farrell. If you are interested in finding out about the wines visit the website garyfarrellwines.com and thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
