Produce Manager Awards Program

Produce Manager Awards Program

I’m Lacy Gray with Washington Ag Today.

PULEO: When I got this call, I immediately called my wife. I came home that evening and on the front door was a huge poster - Produce Manager of the Year lives here.

That was Nick Puleo who won Produce Manager of the Year when the United Fresh Foundation honored 25 outstanding retail produce managers at the United Fresh 2012 convention. The Retail Produce Manager Awards Program gives special recognition to produce managers who work hard everyday in our nation’s supermarkets to increase sales and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables. Another of the 2012 Retail Produce Manager Award recipients was Rich Jackson with Quality Food Centers in Sammamish, Washington. Nominations for the 2013 Retail Produce Manager Awards Program are now being accepted. Winners will be honored at the Produce Celebration Dinner at the United Fresh 2013 convention in San Diego. President of United Fresh, Tom Stenzel talks about the 2013 convention and United Fresh’s collaboration with the Food Marketing Institute.

STENZEL: 2013 we’re going to be in San Diego in May - a lot of excitement around that event, but then I’m glad that we’ve reached the agreement with FMI on 2014. We’ll be back in Chicago, which is actually the scene of where the old FMI show used to be and it’s always been a great spot for the industry to come together.

Nominations for the 2013 Retail Produce Manager Awards Program may be accessed online at unitedfreshfoundation.org, and must be received by January 18, 2013.
