Nass Surveys & RMA Forage Reminder

Nass Surveys & RMA Forage Reminder

Small grain producers in Washington State may be receiving a NASS County Ag Production Survey questionnaire in the mail starting this week. The National Agricultural Statistics Service is conducting the survey in order to collect data on total acres planted and harvested, and total yield and production of small grains on a county level within the state. Information provided by producers will be utilized by numerous sectors of the agricultural industry. NASS asks that producers receiving the survey please respond to make sure this important data is as accurate as possible.

Risk Management Agency’s Jo Lynne Seufer would like to remind producers of the expanded coverage availability for the Forage Alfalfa Seed Pilot Multi-Peril Crop Insurance program.

SEUFER: We’re excited to offer coverage for the 2013 crop year on the Forage Alfalfa Seed Pilot again for qualifying producers in Idaho, Oregon, & Washington, and the availability of that policy through written agreement if it’s outside the pilot areas. Our sales closing date is really September 30, but October 1, because September 30 falls on a Sunday, October 1 will be the final date.

Prior to crop year 2012, the pilot program only allowed coverage availability to producers in the limited areas of Grant and Walla Walla counties in Washington, Malheur County in Oregon, and Canyon and Owyee Counties in Idaho. Producers outside these county pilot areas may now request MPCI protection for their alfalfa seed crop for the 2013 crop year.

I’m Lacy Gray and that’s Washington Ag Today on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
