Welcome to Open Range, I’m Susan Allen. Stay tuned because after the break I’ll check in with our field reporter, Greg Martin for the AgriBeef Minute.

I’m Greg Martin with today’s AgriBeef Minute. To date, the Cattle Feeders Hall of Fame has inducted 8 industry leaders. Jim Miles, marketing manager for Merck Animal Health’s cattle feeding segment explains.

MILES: About 5 years ago several of us involved in the cattle feeding industry started discussing the fact that cattle feeders didn’t have a Hall of Fame. There was actually 3 founding sponsors; Merck Animal Health, Vance Publications’ Drover Cattle Network Publications and then Osbourne and Barr Communications. It’s actually a not-for-profit organization. We have a nominating committee of 5 members who are not cattle feeders but they are involved in the cattle industry.

Each year 2 people are inducted into the Hall of Fame and one of this years’ inductees was the founder of AgriBeef.

MILES: Robert Rebholtz, Sr. was also inducted. I think the really cool thing about Bob is that Bob started this business because he wanted to be a cattleman and he did everything he could to learn about the cattle business. He built the business through good business practices. The guy was a very shrewd businessman that everybody I’ve ever met that ever had any dealing with him just absolutely said he was top notch.

This year’s other Hall of Fame inductee was Willard Sparks. Check out their website at cattlefeedershalloffame.com. I’m Greg Martin and that’s today’s AgriBeef Minute.

Thanks Greg. Don’t forget Greg will be back each Wednesday with the AgriBeef Minute. Agri Beef Co - Real Families, Great People, Exceptional Beef. I’m Susan Allen.
