Groundbreakers. Celebrating Washington Wine. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

The Washington State Wine Commission has just launched a new website as part of their 25th anniversary paying tribute to groundbreakers in the wine industry. Ryan Pennington, Communications Director for the commission explains.

PENNINGTON: We are very excited to launch this new website for our Groundbreakers program which is what we’ve titled this collection of essays about 25 industry veterans who have been in the industry 25 years or longer all in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Wine Commission and the Auction of Washington Wines.

The website is at www.washingtonwine.org/25 and is currently up and running,

PENNINGTON: Certainly the industry is older that 25 years but with our 25th anniversary being an important milestone we wanted to celebrate not by drawing attention to ourselves but instead by celebrating those people in the industry who’ve really made the industry what it is today.

The site currently features 5 wine groundbreakers with more to be added throughout the year to a total of 25.

PENNINGTON: It’s really the people that are part of this industry that make it so special and that’s why we wanted to collect and share these stories of these industry veterans who’ve been around so long and given so much to the industry with people who might not be aware of these stories. There are some incredible luminaries on this list. This list will certainly not be all inclusive.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
