03/14/05 Renewable energy workshops this week

There are a series of workshops this week in various Idaho cities and they're aimed at helping farmers and ranchers learn more about renewable energy opportunities under the 2002 Farm Bill. They'll be able to learn about different systems, government grants, cost sharing, how to apply and hear from those who've 'been there, done that.' These free seminars are co-sponsored by USDA and the Idaho Energy Division. That's where Gerry Galinato works and he's obviously promoting renewable energy projects. GALINATO "And it includes wind, solar energy, biomass, geothermal resource and others for various types of applications and of course we have a lot of those resources in Idaho." Several wind farms are now on line and more are coming, large and small. Another geothermal power project near Raft River continues to move forward while a new ethanol production plant in Burley could be just the first of several in the state. Experts will be on hand to update producers about the newest technologies. The first workshop will be held later today in Boise. Tomorrow it's on to Twin Falls and Pocatello. Wednesday they go to Idaho Falls and Salmon, Thursday to Coeur d'Alene and end in McCall on Friday. These workshops are free and you just have to show up, no pre-registration needed.
