03/11/05 Governor`s Award Winner, Rush

RUSH ""I'm Dick Rush. I was born and raised in Idaho. Really grew up in Moscow and I've had a lifelong interest in agriculture." Dick Rush is a University of Idaho graduate who started his career with Boise Cascade Corporation. Rush was also administrator for the Idaho Wheat Commission, a job he held for eight years until then Governor John Evans fired his Agriculture Director. Some of his ideas resulted in programs still in existence today. RUSH "Maybe a risky decision but I figured you don't get asked to do that very often. One of the things that I did pretty quickly was establish a marketing division. One of the things that I'm interested in and still am is leadership. I think Leadership Idaho Agriculture may have the most lasting benefit to the state because that's where you learn how to become a leader, how to promote your industry, how to do things in a reasonable manner. It really helps you figure out how to present yourself to the public or the legislature or anyone else. And I think that's what Leadership Idaho Ag is all about. I'm real proud of that."
