2011 Hort Meeting

2011 Hort Meeting

2011 Hort Meeting. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

The 2011 Washington State Hort Meeting and Expo is in the record book and the Executive Director, Bruce Grim is pleased with the results.

GRIM: We had a couple of organizations step up and provide some prize items that we were able to send out the first round of registration notices and if you sent your registration for the convention back by the end of July you were entered for an iPad drawing. And that was sponsored by Firefly. And then Wheatland Bank stepped up and sponsored a Cabela’s gift card for the next round so actually we had just right at or a hair over 1000 people registered as of last Friday.

And of course there were quite a number of on-site registrations.

GRIM: We had 261 preregister for the Spanish language session which is a big number. We generally always get around a hundred registering so we’ll be busting the walls of the building out if we get that kind of turnout but I think that’s indicative of the kind of program that West Mathison and Jay Brunner, kind of our co-chairs of the convention this year and they’ve done a great job of putting the program together.

The meeting and expo has always been a great place to meet up with friends and colleagues from the fruit industry.

GRIM: I think they hear a lot of good information. My hope is probably those sessions will stimulate more conversation, more thought. Maybe some of these people will think about their business model and how they’re doing things and maybe come up with some better ways to do what they’re doing.

More on Monday.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
