RuralPolitans
Okay, just what is a “ruralpolitan”? Sounds like a fancy dessert, but it happens to be a professional urbanite who has abandoned city living for the rural lifestyle. Anyone remember the Green Acres Oliver and Lisa Douglas television characters? Thankfully, the modern ruralpolitan isn’t quite that naive or inept. What he or she is though is someone who has discovered or rediscovered the quality of a life based on agriculture and farming. Originally a buzzword for marketing the great outdoors to city folk, ruralpolitan has become permeated into society and now relates to more than just hobby farmers. Ruralpolitans are people who went in search of an escape from the rigors and personal seclusion of their metropolitan lifestyle and found a connection for themselves and their families to the land, wildlife, and perhaps for the first time in their lives, honest to goodness neighbors. Ruralpolitans have a lot to learn, and are well aware of that fact. That’s where their traditional farming and ranching neighbors, and ag media such as the Northwest Ag Network come in; all valuable resources that can help educate ruralpolitans.
