Honor. Respect. Bravery. “We salute the core principles of America's soldiers because they so proudly reflect the ways of the West.” Sounds like a rodeo announcer at any grand entry, but it’s the words you’ll find on the home page of the Wrangler National Patriot Program. I’m Susan Allen, stay tuned Open Range will return after the break. Unlike other pro sports, rodeo is refreshingly steeped in patriotism. The "God and Country" mantra is present at every event. Because this All American aura is so unique in today’s "global climate" mindthink Wrangler western wear has created a program with a goal to unite the entire rodeo and western communities to join forces in supporting our troops through events and apparel sales. Tennessee recenlty hosted a mounted shooting benefit called Shoot for the Troops. It was fun, celebrity filled and it raised over $8,000 for soldiers struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder. The Wrangler National Patriots Program began with a check for $50,000 last year donated in the in the name of cowboy legend, Jim Shoulders and has morphed into a movement with a line a of patriot apparel and numerous events to benefit our armed forces. The western wear company is encouraging rodeo committees across the country to create their own fundraising events and connect with locally based charities to provide assistance to wounded or fallen veterans and their families.
