01/25/05 Pronouncing wines

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and on today's program we will tackle the pronunciation of a few commonly mispronounce wines and wine terms. Recently a listener confessed to me that she will not order a wine if she isn't certain how to pronounce it. This broke my heart. I say - who cares? If you are curious, just admit that you want to know how the wine is pronounced, and try it! So today I have picked out a few pronunciation that daunted me in the early years. V-o-u-v-r-a-y - Voov ray. S-o-a-v-e - Swa vay. P-i-n-o-t N-o-i-r - Pee no Nwar P-o-u-i-l-l-y Fuisse' - Pooh yee Fwee say Pouilly Fume' - Pooh yee Foo may That is one you must learn to pronounce because you shouldn't miss the wine. Mersault - Mare so Next, are a few common errors. M-e-r-l-o-t is pronounced Mare low not Mare lot. C-h-a-b-l-i-s is pronounced sha blee not cha blis. But regardless of whether or not you are certain how to pronounce a wine just ask for help and order it for goodness sake. And thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
