Death & Taxes and Wolverines Cause Questions

Death & Taxes and Wolverines Cause Questions. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report. Congress is back for an abbreviated session and while making his rounds in the district Washington Congressman Doc Hastings says he kept hearing one theme. HASTINGS: Virtually every place I went the issue of the deficits that we're running this year came up and the understanding that that simply cannot be sustained over time. And that kind of showed me there was a tremendous kind of angst out in the district. There are a lot of issues that could be brought up before the end of this short session but with the election hovering, no one really knows what - if anything will be accomplished. The Bureau of Land Management says an environmental analysis must be done before a new permit can be issued to a backcountry ski operator hoping to use tracked vehicles to take clients into the St. Joe Mountains in northern Idaho. The area is a known habitat for wolverines, classified as a sensitive species by the agency. Carey and Ryan Stanley purchased Peak Adventures last year with the plan of operating the backcountry ski business on 13,000 acres of public land. They have to determine if commercial use of the area is still compatible with the agency's objectives adopted in 2007. Now here's today's Washington Grange Report. (GRANGE) That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
