Jobs Bill Passes & Deadline Approaching

Jobs Bill Passes & Deadline Approaching. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report. An important deadline is right around the corner for many producers - and it could impact their eligibility for SURE. Stacia Cudd of the National Association of Farm Broadcasting explains. CUDD: Producers of many spring planted crops face a March 15th crop insurance sign-up deadline - which - if missed - may make them ineligible for USDA's Supplemental Revenue Assistance Payments Program - or SURE. March 15th is also the deadline for making any changes to existing policies. Since there is now a strong incentive to invest in higher levels of coverage - many producers may choose to make changes. By a vote of 70 to 28 the U.S. Senate has passed a 15-billion dollar jobs-creation bill. As written, the bill would extend a tax break for businesses that spend money on capital investments, such as equipment purchases. It would also give Businesses tax breaks for hiring the unemployed and states more money for infrastructure projects. The administration says it strongly supports the measure but indicated it is only one step in the job-creation effort. The President wants lawmakers to take up a bill that would increase small businesses' access to credit. Now here's today's Washington Grange Report. (GRANGE) That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
