New Favorite Wine

New Favorite Wine

Welcome to Vine to Wine, this is your host Linda Moran. As most of you know, my “new favorite wine” is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time. It is because I simply do not drink wine that I don’t like.

I love Paso Robles home to a portion of California wine country that is about half way between San Francisco and Los Angeles. After a recent trip through Paso Robles, I looked into my cellar for a bottle of wine I remembered buying on a trip to California several years ago. The wine was a 2000 Syrah from Victor Hugo Winery of Paso Robles. I am so impressed with this wine. It is rich in complexity and strong with fruit along with enough acid to make it bright and pair well with food. This wine held up very well. The winery is well known for its Cabernet Sauvignon, and if the Syrah is any indication of what is in store for me, I am looking forward to trying some of that on my next visit to Paso Robles wine country. Speaking of Syrah another great Syrah is 2007 Heritage from Olsen Estates in Prosser Washington. This is a label celebrating the centennial of this well respected Washington farming family in the Yakima Valley. The wine is ripe and juicy with good backbone and a extremely well integrated tannins. And considering its pedigree, it is quite reasonably priced. So there you have it my new favorite wines for this week. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thank you for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
