Changes
Changes. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.
Ag producers will be seeing a bit of a change beginning tomorrow according to Eric Jones with the Washington State Department of Revenue.
JONES: On January 1st, 2010 there’s a shift from resale certificates to reseller permits for people who make wholesale purchases on items that get resold. Farmers are affected by this but they may not need a reseller permit or to register with the Department.
Ok, so you have every intention of getting the paperwork filled out but for whatever reason you forget. What happens?
JONES: It’ll be very simple for the wholesaler or farm supply store to ask them to fill out the certificate if they’re a farmer. About 34-thousand of farmers were already notified by letter that they can just fill this out and provide it to the wholesaler. The wholesaler can do purchases just the way he does now with a resale certificate,
Jones says this really is only about doing this a different way that will not affect farmers or wholesalers.
JONES: It only changes the piece of paper provided. It doesn’t change any tax law and there is no tax increase. The Department of Revenue has added form online at dor.wa.gov called the “Farmers Certificate for Wholesale Purchases & Sales Tax Exemptions.”
Whew…good news.
