Wine & Veggies

Wine & Veggies

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. The veggies of summer are abundant and I for one am sick of hearing people say wine doesn’t go with veggies! Let’s Chat!

I am a vegetable lover so you can imagine I get a little giddy when my veggie garden really starts to produce and the farmer’s market is brimming with great finds. Now I recognize great big red wines and the tannins associated with them are not always conducive to vegetables. But there are red wines with lower tannins that do work with our veggies. Remember, very often the preparation may be a big contributor to what wine will work with our garden bounty. So let’s think about some of the summer favs like corn. What could be better than a nice glass of buttery Chardonnay? Onions are big this time of year. If they are caramelized in a tart or sautéed with olive oil and herbs as a side dish, try Pinot Gris or Pouilly Fume’. Eggplant is looking good and no matter how you prepare it think dry Rose’ or Dolcetto. Avocados  are fabulous with Sauvignon Blanc and so are green beans. Potatoes and Zucchini roasted on the grill are so nice with Tempranillo or Chianti. For the most part if you like red wine with grilled fish and vegetables look for nice smooth Pinot Noir. Just stay clear of the wines you enjoy with meat and stew and you will likely do fine.  Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
