08/29/08 New Favorite

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and as many of you know, my new favorite wine is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time. I simply do not waste my time drinking wine that I do not like. That was certainly the case this evening when I found my new favorite wine. Okay so it's 9:30 pm and I just got home from my meeting of - Wild Women on Wine, each month we get together to learn something about wine. This evening the owners from Hightower Vineyards and Winery from Red Mountain AVA in Washington were the guests. So, we are tasting the wines, listening to the stories and it happened, I picked up the glass and smelled Merlot, not oak with undertones of Merlot but real Merlot. However, something about it was different, it was meaty and roasted - very savory. This wine is well layered in fragrance and texture it is elaborate in some respects but it is restrained in others. It was truly a crowd pleaser. All of the ladies enjoyed it. Maybe it was the great food maybe it was the conviviality who knows but I recommend you find a bottle of Hightower 2005 Merlot and try it out for yourself. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
