Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. Today is food and wine pairing day and I want to share a recipe for a simple fruit salad. It is simple and lends itself as a side dish to lunch or brunch, and of course the wines that go with it. An assortment of fresh melon balls is what makes this such a good salad. Use honeydew, cantaloupe, watermelon, crenshaw melon - whatever you can get from wherever in the world it is in season. Make a dressing with the juice of one large lemon and a teaspoon of honey. Whisk the two together until they are completely incorporated. Then toss the melon in the dressing and garnish it with strawberries blueberries or raspberries. It really is a pretty fruit salad. If you like the tart crisp flavors to come out it is very good with a sparkling Brut. That combination is so very refreshing. Or you could make a "spritzer" using a sweet Riesling and some club soda or sparkling water. The salad is also excellent with the Riesling by itself of a Moscato d'Asti from Italy, which has just a slight effervescence. Served with poached Salmon or on top of waffles it is a lovely addition to any spring breakfast or lunch. If you are having a more formal lunch you might consider a dry Rose' with the meal. Most of all enjoy the simplicity and the relaxing days of summer. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at Vine to Wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
