Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. Finally with the warmer weather comes the promise of some great summer wines. Today we continue our series about some of the best wines for summer sipping.
When it comes to delicious summer sipping Spain is also a place to turn for excellent summertime whites. Central Spain offers wines with wonderful natural acidity and delicious flavors from Sauvignon Blanc and the native Verdejo grape. In the RÃas Baixas (Ree-us By-shuss) region just above Portugal comes some of the most delightful wines made from the Albariño varietal. This is the coolest part of Spain and the relief from the summer heat contributes to the lovely character to the wines enhancing their delicious peach flavors and along with bright acidity results in lovely wine, light in body but long on flavor. Just across the border in Portugal the Albariño is a part of the delicious and inexpensive Vinho Verde, always a great wine and a great bargain for summer.
Don't forget your sparkling wines from Spain, they are great in the summer for their natural acidity and refreshing bubbles. You do know that sparkling wines are excellent at the dinner table and work well with many types of seafood. So chill it down and enjoy any of these Spanish whites. Join me tomorrow as we continue our discussion of summer wines and thanks for joing me on today's Vine to Wine.
