06/17/08 Summer Wine Part 2

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. Finally with the warmer weather comes the promise of some great summer wines. Today we continue our series about some of the best wines for summer sipping. Yesterday we discussed the two standard white wines Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Today let's venture out into some of the best of Italian wines for the summer. Which means of course I have to mention Pinot Grigio, so refreshing so light so perfect for a lunch or a light summer super. I also enjoy a good Soave, especially when I am having a cold lunch or supper which happens often during August. I know I mention it evry year but a personal favorite is Moscato d'Asti, so light and fruity wine sparkle and just the right sweetness from the Muscat grape. Nothing is better than sitting by a pool or on the porch on a warm summer evening with a glass of Moscato and a bowl of fresh fruit. You won't be disappointed. Speaking of fruit and summer wines do not forget about Riesling. This wine goes the distance from extremely dry to charmingly sweet. Either way good acidity will help ensure a balanced and tasty wine. It is definitely a food and mood type of wine. It is great for Asian and fusion cuisine. So chill it down and enjoy any of these alternative whites. Join me tomorrow as we continue our discussion of summer wines and thanks for joing me on today's Vine to Wine.
