01/23/08 Stuck in a Rut

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. Today I want to spend a little time encouraging you to break out of your everyday wine habits and spark it up by trying something new. It is true; we all are stuck in ruts. We all find our favorite whatever, whether it be brands of foods, favorite authors, places to vacation or yes kinds of wines. Some of us tend to stick with what we know and stay in our comfort zone. However, when I stop and think about that - it scares me! I wonder what I might be missing and if I could enrich my life a little by taking a chance and trying something new. I know that most people start out drinking sweeter white wines. As time passes, if they actually try a few different wines, they tend to move into drier whites and then softer reds and then whoops they have done the entire spectrum and had some fun along the way. So maybe this year a fairly easy resolution to make, and to keep, would be to broaden our wine horizons and take a few chances on some brands or varietals that we may not have had before. If you are a white wine drinker who sticks strictly with Chardonnay try stretching out and drinking some Sauvignon Blanc especially with food. If you are looking for a new white wine - try Viognier. If you are a Merlot drinker and really haven't had much else lately why not try a Syrah? Who knows maybe you will find a few of your new favorite wines! Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at Vine to Wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
