01/24/08 Food & Wine

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and today is food and wine pairing. At our house, we sometimes have breakfast for dinner and it creates a completely new set of challenges when it comes to selecting a wine. Today I want to share some of our favorite breakfast dinners and of course the wines that go with them. It is true sometimes when we are in a hurry or sometimes we just don't feel like the usual fare my husband and I will have breakfast for dinner. Moreover, yes I do pour a glass of wine to accompany it. We like cornmeal waffles with warm chutney piled on top. That is usually good with whatever flavors are in the chutney sometime Gewurztraminer works sometimes Rose. Crepes filled with lots of goodies like warm fruit or ham and cheese make a nice simple meal and of course the wine is determined by the filling. Leftover potatoes make great potato pancakes and they are delicious with fruit butters and a side of chicken sausage. Thick slices of grilled French toast are amazing with warm preserves and some crispy bacon on the side. With this I like sparkling wine. We also enjoy eggs with Italian sausage, parmesan cheese and vegetables all scrambled together. And yes, it is good with Chianti! It seems like scrambling the eggs makes the wine matching easier. I don't know why maybe because I don't want to have to analyze it. I just want to have breakfast for dinner. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda at Vine to Wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
