12/31/07 New Dupont cereal herbicide coming

Farm and Ranch December 31, 2007 Dupont says it is coming out with a new cereal herbicide in the spring of 2008. Wayne Schumacher with Dupont Crop Protection says the product is Agility. Schumacher: "The reason for Agility is that Dupont wants to provide answers to the changing weed control needs that farmers have. And what Agility will be is a new product that has multiple modes of action. And it is really focused around helping control those tough, troublesome weeds that farmers have in grain production in the PNW." A problem weed such as kochia. Schumacher: "This product will have excellent activity on kochia. You use it in the spring, make the post-application and it will give you contact plus residual weed control with these multiple modes of action for cereal grain producers." Schumacher says Agility is based upon Dupont's sulfonylurea chemistry and includes Ally and Harmony Extra. Schumacher: "So we have combined those along with dicamba, which has been used for a long time. And we have it in a dry form so it all comes in one package. You just measure once and start applying your herbicide." Schumacher says Agility should allow a producer the freedom to rotate to peas or lentils the following year. He says Dupont plans on more products specifically for PNW growers. I'm Bob Hoff and that's the Northwest Farm and Ranch Report on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
