Why WSTFA Annual Meeting is Important
From the Western Ag Network, I’m Bob Larson. This year’s Annual Meeting and Hort Show for the Washington State Tree Fruit Association is fast approaching and is an important gathering for those in the industry. With the theme, “Looking Back, Moving Forward,” Gilbert Plath, Co-Chair for the WSTFA Annual Meeting, says attendance is more important this year than ever …
PLATH … “A lot of that’s going to be based around the different transactions that have happened in the industry over the last five years and trying to take a look at that and understand as a grower or supplier or as anyone connected to the industry, how do we react to that and move forward in a way that we think is going to keep us in business and hopefully times turn around and get good again.”
Plath says just talking and sharing with other growers is a huge benefit …
PLATH … “There’s huge value in the coffeeshop talk and hearing ideas from as many people as possible. I’ve gotten huge value out of that as a younger grower. I think I can still say that.”
So, given today’s extreme challenges, Plath says don’t miss out …
PLATH … “Being exposed to the amount of change that is happening in the industry. One of my go-to lines I heard from somebody was, farming has changed more in the last 10 years than it has in the previous thousand, and that is going to continue to change. So, if you don’t stay up to date on it, you will get left behind. So, attending events like these is critical to staying modern and staying in business.”
