From the Western Ag Network, I’m Bob Larson with today’s Fruit Grower Report. If you’ve haven’t made your plans yet to attend the FIRA USA ag technology conference next Tuesday through Thursday in Yakima, there’s still time.

Ines Hanrahan, Executive Director at the Washington Tree Fruit Research Commission, says it’s a great opportunity to see many modern farm tools live …

HANRAHAN … “It’s not just robots, but we will have several times with what we call a robot parade, where people can see all the robots basically being paraded around and how they operate. Yeah, which is kind of fun. But we also have censor technology and a lot of other things that are basically part of modern agriculture, but at a much, much lower hurdle to impact that we showcase and that people can look at and learn how to use some different tools, even data management tools. Really a lot of different things.”

Hanrahan says besides the farmers, there will be educational events for all ages …

HANRAHAN … “We really hope that we can actually create these kinds of visions of farms of the future where local students see they have a future and that there is an interesting workspace for them. That if you’re interested in plants and doing a meaningful job, but also interested in something like technology or engineering, that a farm is potentially a great place for a young person to have a future.”
