12/28/07 Potato Commission staffer selected for ag leadership program

Farm and Ranch December 28, 2007 The Director of Trade for the Washington State Potato Commission, Matt Harris, has been selected to participate in Class 30 of the Washington Agriculture and Forestry Leadership Program. Harris is enthusiastic about his selection. Harris: "All people who have participated in this program are leaders in their own respect in our Washington ag and forestry community. And so far what I have been able to do is to partake in three seminars. The first seminar was the broad overview of the program. And then the second, third seminar really dive into looking at perspective, looking at ourselves and how we communicate with others and working with media such as yourself and taking on responsibilities of becoming leaders with within our agriculture and forestry communities." Harris will attend 14 seminars over a two-year period. The seminars are jointly sponsored by institutions of higher education and agriculture and forestry related businesses. There is also a trip to Washington D.C. Harris: "To learn about our Washington delegation and how to work effectively with Congress and our members of Congress." There will also be an overseas trip and Harris is anxious to learn where that will be. Harris joined the Potato Commission staff in February of 2005. That's the Northwest Farm and Ranch Report.
