12/28/07 Looking forward to 2008

At this month's Farm Bureau Convention Frank Priestley was re-elected President, Carl Montgomery returned as Vice President and the Board of Directors remained intact for 2008. But it's the farmers and ranchers, members of the Farm Bureau House of Delegates that set the organization's state policy. MEMBER COMMENTS "The main reason is because there's power in unity and the more people we have involved in uniting the more power we have." I come from right out of the field on the farm and come here to this convention and help shape the policy that our Farm Bureau takes to the legislature for the year." It's an exercise in democracy and the policy issues all begin at the county level. MEMBER COMMENTS "And then the issues that are in common we get together and make a common policy that will fit all of the counties for that particular issue. I think it's very important. It gets us all on the same page with the issues that are out there that face us every day." The Idaho Farm Bureau is the largest agricultural organization in the state with over 62 thousand members and still growing while looking to 2008 and the challenges that lay ahead.
