Washington Ag December 6, 2007 Apparently the largest impact on agriculture from the flooding in western Washington has been in Lewis County. The Washington State Farm Bureau says it has been advised that at least two dairy herds there have been wiped out due to the flooding with a combined loss of over 700 animals. Another producer has lost over 70 replacement heifers. And a Lewis County sheep dairy lost most of its ewes.
According to Lewis County Farm Bureau president Ron Mauel the biggest need is for alfalfa hay for dairy cattle without feed. Greg Martin reports on how you can help.
Martin: "The Lewis County Farm Bureau has made arrangements with Chehalis Livestock to be a collection point for donated alfalfa hay. That facility is at 328 Hamilton Road in Chehalis, which is Exit 72 on I-5. However, with the problems with I-5 in that area, it's recommended a trucks bringing hay use Highway 12. The contact at Chehalis Livestock is Joe at 360-748-3191. That's 360-748-3191.
If you want to help you can also call Ron Mauel of the Lewis County Farm Bureau at 360-304-9991. 360-304-9991.
