11/26/07 Standing Firm

Standing Firm. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. The annual horticulture convention is a week away in Washington and as in the past several years, the topic of integrated pest management will be talked about. What to do when the tried and true product Guthion is taken off the market? According to Tim Book with Mana Crop Protection, the issue is not a done deal. BOOK: We are going to be the suppliers of it and we are going to be working hard and diligently with the EPA to make sure that it is a viable choice for growers who have come to know and trust what the product Guthion can do for their operation and it's a wonderful tool that they've used for years. Mana is the technical registrant and new owner of Guthion. BOOK: Bayer actually sold us Guthion. We are the sole marketers, distributors and defenders of Guthion currently to date. Book says they have a campaign currently going on to help educate about the correct and safe use of Guthion and they are working hard to keep the product on the market. BOOK: While it is going to be challenging for us to defend and to continue to provide Guthion, it still is an option a viable option for customers to use in 2008. We're very exited to keep this Guthion as a tool for your customer, your listeners to use in their crop programs. Book recommends their website at manainc.com to learn more about Guthion. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
