Washington Ag September 10, 2007 The 27th National Beef Cook-Off is being held this Tuesday through Thursday in Chicago and among the 25 finalists are the Olympia, Washington parent-child team of John and Morgan Hanrahan.
Patti Brumbach, executive director of the Washington Beef Commission says they are excited about having contestants from Washington state as it has been a while since someone from Washington was a finalist. She says John and Morgan Hanrahan will be competing in the Kids in the Kitchen category.
Brumbach: "They are going to be cooking Buffalo Style Beef Tacos in that Kids in the Kitchen category. I understand that it is very flavorful and I know it also to be a very nutrient and dense food. So a healthy recipe as well."
The 25 finalists will be competing for some big prize money.
Brumbach: "The cash prizes for the National Beef Cook-Off exceed 100-thousand dollars. So it is one of America's premier amateur beef cooking events."
The Cook-Off provides thousands of opportunities for publicity for cooking with beef. Just the entry phase of the 2007 Cook-Off generated more than 16-hundred positive articles about the event which reached 220 million Americans.
