07/26/07 PETA tackles the NFL

I admit it, I have persistently picked on PETA, (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) but I am the first to give PETA credit where credit is due, so when it comes to putting pressure on Michael Vick and the NFL for dog fighting I say &. Go PETA! Mr. Vick will soon experience a whole new meaning of the word "dogged" when he has PETA constantly on his tail, lurking around every corner with a pitiful rescued pit-bull and graphic pictures of dogs being beat, hosed, electrocuted and killed. There are no instant replays, the NFL will learn a tough lesson, that they aren't invincible after all, we are becoming weary of the antics of overpaid and uneducated athletes. The only positive from this foul mess is that the sport of dog fighting is harshly exposed and with it the fact that over 30 percent of the animals flooding our shelters are pit bulls, many raised as fighting dogs. This will serve to further incite animal lovers. Commissioner Roger Goodall who's biggest move so far was to ban the words ookie and dog from the back of professional jerseys at the NFL store, better wake up quick to the fact that America's love affair with her canine companions goes far deeper than tarnished arena of pro sports.
