07/25/07 Cutthroat Comeback

I have been planning a fly fishing safari of sorts throughout Idaho for my main squeeze's upcoming birthday so naturally I was delighted by the news from both state and federal fish biologists declaring all was well with the cutthroat and other species of trout we will be pursuing on our adventure. In fact the extensive research completed by US Fish and Wildlife in parts of Wyoming, Idaho and south-central Montana revealed that the trout can be now be found in 7,527 miles of streams up from 6,352 just three years ago. Not everyone is hunky dory about the new fish numbers, environmental groups who have aggressively lobbied for the cutthroat to be put under the endangered species act are leaking misinformation like a bad pair of waders. Calling new fish numbers "government double talk" the Montana Ecosystem Defense Council continues to believe the habitat is in "terrible shape". I will soon experience just how dire those pristine fish filled rivers will be. Now I wonder what those sour environmentalists do for fun, what wets their fly?
