Getting the Wine Scoop. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. Yesterday we talked about the all new LoveWashintgonWine.com website that is an online e-tailer for small boutique Washington wines. Part of the web sites redesign was to include more education components including an online wine column by international wine expert, Amy Mumma. MUMMA: We truly do have some of the highest quality wines in the world in their own unique way. They're not a Bordeaux, they're not a Napa and we never should be. Our wines, due to our climactic conditions give us this vibrancy of fruit, they're very structured wines. Even though we're a very young industry, I think we have a lot of potential to grow and even increase the quality we already have. Mumma's e-column, "Notes from the Cellar" will be a bi-monthly showcase for different wines. MUMMA: What I try to do with that is when I taste wines, as much as possible I taste them objectively, it's not really about my tastes I'm going to present the wine as it is and how it looks and the aroma and then go through the palate step-by-step so I'll never use things like white sheets flapping in the wind to describe a wine. She says she feels the education of wine is very important. MUMMA: Part of my big push here is not to just write about a wine, this is a great picnic wine, etc., etc. but there need to be an educational component. So I do a lot of education because the more you know, the more you'll enjoy. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
