06/28/07 WSU Potato Field Day; Continuous CRP re-enrollment

Washington Ag June 28, 2007 The Washington State University Potato Research Group will host its annual Potato Field Day starting at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow, June 29 at the Othello Research Farm. The Field Day will feature field tours highlighting the latest research developments in potato cultural practices and pest management, as well as a potato pest management workshop. Talks on the management of new potato cultivars, fertility and pest management will be presented by experts from Washington State University, as well as Oregon State University and private agronomic consulting firms. The Field Day culminates with a hosted lunch at 12:30 p.m. USDA Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services Floyd Gaibler, has announced that landowners may be eligible to re-enroll their land in the Conservation Reserve Program continuous sign up if their contracts expire on September 30th of this year. Gaibler: "These continuous acres are very valuable in term of soil and water quality and have been a very important part of the Conservation Reserve Program."
