06/20/07 Tasting The Wine

Tasting the wine. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. Each year the Washington Wine Commission gives the public a chance to sample some of the best wines and foods the state has to offer. This past weekend Taste Washington Spokane was held and Robin Pollard, the Executive Director of the commission says it was very well attended. POLLARD: It was a sell out event. We held the ultimate wine experience, Taste Washington Spokane on Father's Day at the lovely Davenport Hotel. This is the fifth year for this event and it is an opportunity for not only the vintners to show off their great wines but also a great venue for the chef's. There were a number of new wineries at this years show. POLLARD: We had a number of wineries who were participating in their first Washington Wine Commission event because they just opened and they had just released their first vintage so it was very fun for all of us to get to meet new members of the industry and taste their wines and again, I'm just continually amazed by the fabulous product that is being produced here in Washington. In addition to the food and wine tasting, the Commission held a silent auction. POLLARD: All of the proceeds from the auction went to Washington State University Viticulture and Enology program as well as the Davenport District Arts Board which is the downtown Spokane arts association. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
