Stemilt Scholarship. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
The Washington Apple Education Foundation has announced a new partnership with Stemilt Growers. For the first time this year they are offering the availability of the Stemilt Growers, Inc. scholarship. Jennifer Witherbee is the executive director of WAEF.
WITHERBEE: This was and idea that Stemilt came up with as a way that would encourage students to think about careers in the tree fruit industry and to accomplish that, to bring some of those students back home to their home communities. So this was an idea Stemilt generated to accomplish getting kids back to Central Washington communities and helping them think about the different career opportunities that are available to them in the industry.
Witherbee says the scholarship is open to juniors and seniors who are pursuing a degree in accounting.
WITHERBEE: Well this is an exciting new award that combines college funding and career experience. The scholarship is open to college juniors and seniors, it's a $2500 award and that is renewable for a second year and in addition the student has the opportunity to spend 2 months interning at Stemilt's Wenatchee headquarters in the accounting department.
The application is also available online at www.waef.org. The deadline for completed applications to be returned to the Washington Apple Education Foundation is April 15, 2007.
