Pear bureau offers ornament. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
A special commemoration issue ornament for the 75th Anniversary of USA Pears has been designed exclusively for the Pear Bureau Northwest. According to Maggie Andre, the ornaments have been well received.
ANDRE: We started out a long time ago. Now we do two every year and this will be the 14th consumer ornament. This is the first year I've done one in al 24 karat gold. Plate of course, not solid.
The ornaments were originally offered to retailers.
ANDRE: These things are very high quality. If you were to buy them at Nordstrom's you'd probably pay from 25 to 35 dollars, but we sell them for as I say about 6 and a half which is what they cost us to buy them in quantity.
Due to the non profit nature of the Pear Bureau, the cost of the ornaments is relatively small but&
ANDRE: The stipulation is that they buy 3 and a half pounds of pears plus the cost of the ornament which this year I think is 6.25. You don't have to buy them all at once, just keep your sales slips and receipts or ask your neighbors to save them for you or start early, you know this is coming every year so start early and save receipts because the receipts you get after Christmas will be as valid as the ones you do today.
Tomorrow, Maggie Andre talks about another promotion she's developed.
