11/03/06 Oregon Wine Facts Released

Oregon Wine Facts Released. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. Each year, thousands of statistics are gathered and studied to help ag producers of all kinds make informed decisions for their future. Laura Burgess is with the Oregon Field office of the USDA's National Ag Statistics Service who has recently released winery stats. BURGESS: It's essentially comprised of 2 sections. The first section covers vineyards and the second covers wineries. The release is 12 pages long and we also have a Quick Facts which is a running 10-year summary of the most frequently requested information. Burgess says the report covers a lot of information. BURGESS: Just about everything you could think of. Planted acreage by variety and by county; number of vineyards, yield production price and value. And then we also have a little bit more detailed information such as planted, uh, individual tables of planted acreage by county and variety so it's a lot. She said while nothing in particular stood out, the entire report continues to surprise. BURGESS: What we've been seeing the past couple of years is that every year has kind of been a record. You know a record amount of acres planted and harvested and also a record amount of grapes crushed. It just seems like the vineyard and winery industry is just, you know it's growing every single year. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
