Citrus vs. Summer Stress
It doesn’t take much time outdoors to realize the risk of heat stress and today we’re talking about that very serious issue not for those of us working outdoors but for the very fruit – in this case citrus – that we’re working with. Ryan McCoon of Cultiva…“It can lead to more damage as we look at early season heat because of where that fruit is staged at. And so fruit drop, sunburn, and then reduction in quality metrics are something that we should be concerned about in citrus.”
And, with elevated input costs, McCoon explained that protecting this crop as early as possible to do all you can to protect marketable yield is critical. He has helped many producers take a step in that direction by using Parka…
“Reinforcing the fruit’s natural cuticle is really what it’s doing. If we’re able to do that, protect fruit from excess heat as well as sunlight, what we also find is that tree performance is another part of our mode of action that can allude to helping with quality metrics.”
If you’re a citrus grower looking to stay ahead of the heat, check out Parka from Cultiva at Cultiva.com or connect with your local sales representative.
