A new statewide campaign in Georgia is putting farmers markets in the spotlight.

The Georgia Department of Agriculture has launched "Meet Me at the Market," a 2026 initiative designed to highlight the impact farmers markets have on agriculture and the communities they serve while encouraging consumers to shop local.

Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper says the campaign will showcase Georgia Grown-certified farmers markets through signage, social media promotions, special Market Days, and other outreach efforts. Harper noted that with Georgia peaches and Vidalia onions currently in season, it's an ideal time for consumers to visit their local market and support agriculture close to home.

As part of the campaign, ten markets have been selected as Spotlight Markets for 2026. Those include the Amicalola Regional Farmers Market in Dawsonville, Forsyth Farmers' Market in Savannah, Freedom Farmers Market in Atlanta, and WayGreen Local Fare Market in Waycross.

While the campaign is Georgia-based, it reflects a growing emphasis across the Southeast on connecting consumers directly with local farmers and food producers.
