10/31/06 Washington Cattlemen`s Convention

Washington Ag October 31, 2006 The Washington Cattlemen's Association Convention is coming up November 9-11th at the Red Lion Inn in the Park in Spokane. The Cattlemen's College Seminars kick things off the morning of November 9th. WCA executive vice president Jack Field highlights some of the rest of the first day's speakers. Field: "Lynn Heinz from the U.S. Meat Export Federation will speak during the Thursday lunch and give an overview of how the checkoff and the U.S. M.E.F. have been working overseas trying to penetrate and get market access back into some of our key markets. The other speaker will be Charlie Orchard. Charlie is from Montana and he is going to speak about the importance of range monitoring." Thursday afternoon features a panel on the recommendations of that Task Force on the national beef checkoff which included raising the national assessment from one to two dollars a head. During Friday's session participants will hear about radio frequency identification research done at Kansas State University and also get a cattle market update and outlook from Cattle-Fax. There's also the trade show, committee meetings and social activities. I'm Bob Hoff.
