“It creates a marketplace of uncertainty and chaos for producers who don't know exactly who they're going to be producing for and whether they need to be complying with a California law or another state requirement.”
Zieba explains that by addressing proposition 12 within a Farm Bill, rather than as a standalone measure, the goal is to eliminate the policy and return to a more consistent system that removes uncertainty for producers,
“The way that the chairman GT Thompson from the health Ag Committee passed out of committee a couple of years ago and was something that moved to eliminate California prop 12 and go back to a system without prop 12 language that was included in in the farm bill that went out of committee a couple years ago in the previous Congress, look to address that uncertainty, and looked at ensuring that we didn't have this patchwork that could be created in the future, and prevented the ability for non science based housing standards to be established in the future.”
