California Farm Bureau Honors Young Farmers and Ranchers Leaders
Farm and ranch leaders from across the state were honored at the 107th California Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in Anaheim, where the Young Farmers and Ranchers program recognized standout contributions from individuals and county committees. Steve Murray, a fourth generation farmer in Bakersfield, received the Hometown Hero Award for his ongoing support of the Kern County YF and R Committee. In her nomination, Katelyn Filkins wrote, “Steve’s consistent support and genuine belief in the next generation of farmers have made a lasting impact on our program and our members.” Murray hosts members on his farm each year for hands on learning and donates produce to the committee’s annual Charity Farmers Market.The Star Member Award went to Cotati farmer Matthew Vosseler for his strong leadership and long involvement with the Sonoma Marin YF and R Committee. Sonoma Marin was also named Committee of the Year. Additional honors went to Central Coast, Stanislaus and Merced committees for their community outreach, food donations and innovative projects that support agriculture and local families.
