John Deere is one of the most recognizable brands in all of agriculture. But most people associate the John Deere green color with tractors in big open fields of row crops or combines harvesting grain. But the company also has been making some big inroads into offering technology to high value crops, things like vegetables, tree crops and vines. Sean Sundberg is the Business Integration Manager of High-Value Crops at Deere.
Sundberg… “ When you think about where John Deere has traditionally been so strong, it's in the Midwest; wheat, cotton, sugar, et cetera. And we've really taken a stronger look at high value crops. And we felt that it was a ripe opportunity for Deere to take our technology that we do have and extend it into these markets. So we've made some key bets with let's say a Monosem acquisition. Recently, the GUSS acquisition, Smart Apply, Mazzotti, et cetera. So we've made some big investments that we feel our dealers will be able to sell the value of those products to growers. The growers will realize the value of those products, and we can help grow sustainable businesses in terms of enabling growers to grow top line revenue, increase profitability, et cetera.”
John Deere recently announced a partnership with The Reservoir, a new California-based on-farm startup incubator dedicated to specialty crops.
