Horse folks from across the Southeast will be heading to Montgomery, Alabama, this Labor Day weekend for a big one. The Alabama Open Horseman’s Association is hosting its 38th Annual State Championship Show, August 29 through 31, at the Garrett Coliseum and its Crawford Arena.

It’s the largest AOHA show in more than 15 years, with over 2,000 entries and more than 550 ponies and horses. Classes cover all ages, from kids eight and under through adults, with events ranging from halter and English to ranch, western, and timed favorites like barrels and poles. Youth will account for more than 800 entries, and a new Equine with Disabilities class ensures more riders can take part.

The AOHA is comprised of fourteen independent horse show associations located throughout the State of Alabama and select locations of Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee. Their State Championship Show continues to stand as the largest and most successful horse show east of the Mississippi River. And with more than $35,000 in awards and a $4 million economic impact, it’s easy to see why.
