Veteran Farmers in the Southeast – There’s a National Award Just for YouThere’s a $10,000 prize — and a national spotlight — waiting for a veteran farmer who’s making a difference in their local community.
The American Farm Bureau Federation, with support from Farm Credit, is now accepting applications for the Veteran Farmer Award of Excellence. It honors U.S. military veterans or active service members who are not only growing crops or raising livestock — but also growing community.
The recipient will receive a $10,000 cash prize, plus travel and lodging for two to attend the Farm Bureau Convention in Anaheim, California, this January.
Last year’s honoree, Retired Colonel Joe Ricker of Indiana, started a nonprofit orchard where veterans and first responders learn about beekeeping and farming as a path to healing and purpose.
You don’t have to be a Farm Bureau member to apply — just someone making an impact in agriculture. The deadline to apply is September 2 by 5 p.m. Eastern.
