The Senate on Tuesday confirmed former Georgia Senator David Perdue as the next U.S. ambassador to China with a 67-29 vote, gaining some bipartisan support. Perdue, a Republican and former business executive, takes the role as the U.S. and China remain in a tense tariff dispute that could reshape global trade. At his confirmation hearing, Perdue called the U.S.-China relationship “the most consequential diplomatic challenge of the 21st century.”

Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J. Harper congratulated Perdue, stating, “A strong U.S. Ambassador to China is essential to the success of President Trump’s America First agenda and American Agriculture, and Ambassador Perdue is uniquely qualified to serve in this critical role.” He continued, “I’m proud to offer Ambassador Perdue my sincere congratulations, and I look forward to working together, with President Trump, to negotiate better trade deals, expand market access, and lower the cost of critical ag inputs and precursor materials for American farmers.”
