China Talks - Grassley
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. The White House needs to stop negotiating so publicly with China on tariffs, according to a top US Ag and trade senator.Former Senate Finance Chair and longtime Ag Senator Chuck Grassley has some advice for the Trump Administration when it comes to the President’s tariff war with China …
GRASSLEY … “Our executive branch has to shut up and negotiate, and not do it in the press.”
And, Grassley says for good reason …
GRASSLEY … “China sees the world seeing the United States putting pressure on China. China’s a proud nation of 5-thousand years of history, and they ain’t gonna be pushed around…even though there’s good reason to push ‘em. But they don’t like that.”
China says it won’t bow to US pressure and continues to restrict imports of key US farm goods with levies of 10 to 15%.
President Trump softened his tone recently, saying his 245% overall tariff on Chinese goods could come down, while one report said China may pause its 125% duty on certain US goods.
Trump says he has spoken with China’s President Xi Jinping, which China denied, though there appears to be movement toward negotiations.
